Main Idea 1 is Available!

VANCOUVER, B.C., CANADA,  August 26, 2014 — Happy Frogs Apps announces the release of Main Idea 1, an app that helps children master reading comprehension, to the Apple App Store.

Click here to get Main Idea 1 on the App Store

Main Idea 1 is designed for children grades 2-5 and helps them build one of the foundation skills required for reading comprehension: knowing what a story is about.  Main Idea 1 is the first in the Main Idea series and builds proficiency in understanding what a sentence is about and the main idea it is conveying.  Once a child firmly establishes this skill, they are well prepared for understanding the main ideas of a page or paragraph.

Tested with typical and special needs children, Main Idea 1 is designed to increase motivation and keep children engaged. Reading comprehension skills are built incrementally through a game-like format with a fun and engaging rewards system. New levels are unlocked only when users are ready as they master new skills. Instead of punishing users for wrong answers, users are always gently guided to correct ones, reducing frustration.

600 questions with content designed by professional teachers and researchers are included in the app, ensuring many hours of fun filled training. Advanced levels include timers to ensure fluency.

Janine Toole, the founder of Happy Frog Apps, had this to say about the app: “Reading is the key to learning. We want to give every child the apps they need to unlock their reading potential. Our apps teach them the core skills that will enrich their lives.”

We are in the Top 3!

In all the excitement of our first month on the app store, I forgot to announce the release of our second app, Inference Ace!

S1main
Inference Ace has been in the app store for about a week and it has rocketed to the top 3 in the app store search results for the key word ‘inference’! We are even in the top 10 for ‘comprehension’! Fantastic!

Inference Ace is a great app for practicing inferences. Unlike other apps, inferences are taught from multiple perspectives: what inferences are possible, which are not possible, multiple inferences per sentence, etc.

And of course we use our ‘Smart Sentence’ technology to vary the sentence each time it is seen by the user. (Though with over 450 inferences, it will take a while before you see the same inference again!)

We’re very happy with Inference Ace and know that it will be a great part of any reading comprehension program.

Try it out! It’s free to download and you can trial the first four levels. After that, the remaining 30 or so levels are a bargain at $1.99!

You can check the app out on the app store.

Wh Expert 2 is Available!

Yay!  Our very first app ‘WH Expert 2′ is available on the app store!

2?  Yes, we started with the second in our series.  Why?  Because that is what the kids in my life need right now 🙂

Like all our apps, WH Expert 2  focuses on building a specific skill that is required for reading comprehension.  In this app, kids learn what meaning is added by a particular phrase.  It helps kids figure out that ‘because he was sick’  tells us WHY,  ‘with Katy’ tells us WHO, and ‘in the park’ tells us WHERE.

This skill is a precursor to be able to answer questions like:  Did the paragraph tell us where John is?  Do we know why John stayed home?  Why did John stay home?, etc.

Kids must be fluent in this skill to comprehend text as they read, so our app builds in fluency in the last 6 levels.  Your child will need to beat the clock to move on to the next level!

Have fun with this app.  I hope this forms one step in your child’s road to excellent comprehension!
