Learning to read is difficult — so we are making it easier with a series of fun activities that you can do with your child for reading practice.
With each activity your reader will practice core reading skills such as inferencing, prediction, main idea, description, etc, AND you and your learner will be having a great time!
Let’s turn reading into fun!
Quickly draw 4 pictures that present some activities done that day — stick figures are fine!
Next get your child to write a few sentences about each picture. Use the words ‘WHO, WHEN, WHERE, DOING WHAT, WHY, FEELINGS’ to give ideas about what to write. After each picture, have your child read what they have written.
At the end, cover the writing and ask your child to tell you about the things they did today. They can use the pictures as reminders.
If your child’s writing is too brief, suggest that they need to give at least 3 sentences about each picture.
Congratulate your child on an excellent job!
